Between recruiting director Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya) and several major casting decisions, it seemed as if Disney's live-action Cruella film was on track to meet its December 23, 2020 release date.
But in an unexpected move, the studio has chosen to push back the release of Cruella to Memorial Day weekend, May 28, 2021, earning a highly coveted spot during the summer blockbuster season.
Considering we were still more than a year away from the film's original release date, the sudden shift to May shouldn't be a cause for concern. Of course, it will be interesting to see how the live-action adaptation fares during such a competitive season.
Cruella is set to focus on the famous 101 Dalmatians villain Cruella de Vil and will boast a cast that already includes the likes of Emma Stone, Emma Thompson, Joel Fry and Paul Walter Hauser.
