Fans are always nervous when someone announces their favorite art is getting a reboot. And rightly so, studios don’t always do a great job of revisiting your childhood. So, when Disney’s live-action
Mulan announced a new villain, mentor character, and love interest for the audience-favorite 90s hero, not everyone was pleased. But today, Disney proved that it was more than aware of
Mulan’s fanbase. According to
Disney Insider, the live-action adaptation will feature music from the original animated masterpiece.
From “Reflections,” to “A Girl Worth Fighting For,” to “Be A Man,” there’s no shortage of musical hits in Mulan. Now, Disney didn’t go as far as to clarify which of the classics will feature in the reboot, but just knowing that some will be in there is exciting in itself. And if that’s not enough for you, the studio also announced today that loveable sidekick Mushu will make a transition into the live-action film world. Known best as Eddie Murphy’s character in the film, Mushu is a pint-sized dragon with a lot to prove. Mushu “protects” and “guides” Mulan throughout her hero’s journey, and in a film chock-full of comic relief, stands out as one of the funniest characters. There's no word yet on whether or not Eddie Murphy will reprise the role.
The live-action Mulan hits theaters March 27th, 2020.
