Keira Knightley, who's risen to fame thanks to the likes of The Imitation Game, Pride & Prejudice, and Pirates of the Carrabean, is joining the Canada-France-Belgium animated drama, Charlotte. The two-time Oscar nominee is joining the team as an executive producer alongside Marion Cotillard, Morgan Emmery, Jean-Charles Levy, Cédric Iland, Bastien Sirodot, Robert Lantos, Jim Sternberg, Joe Iacono, Mark Musselman Nancy Grant, and Xavier Dolan.

The film is written by Erik Rutherford and David Bezmozgis, directed by Eric Warin and Tahir Rana, and co-produced by Christina Rotsaert, Patrick Puzenat, and Thierry Dechilly.

Charlotte follows a German-Jewish girl in Germany during World War II and her coming of age story as she defies incredible odds. The film isn't just some made up thing, though, the flick is based on the real-world story of Charlotte Salomon as depicted through her autobiographical art pieces under the Life? or Theatre? banner.

Cotillard alongside her role as an executive producer will also provide a voice in the French production of the film. Sierra/Affinity, EVP of Production & Sales, Jen Gordon says they're happy to be working with the star-sudded cast and to provide a unique animated film across the globe and that they believe Charlotte's story needs to be told.

“All of us at Sierra/Affinity are excited to work with this star-studded cast and present this unique animated film to distributors across the globe. The story of Charlotte is one that deserves to be told and we are confident that the massive talent of the cast combined with the direction of the filmmaking team will reach and touch adults worldwide.”

Charlotte is going to host its debut during the Toronto International FIlm Festival this September.
