Sony are developing a live-action retelling of the classic Cinderella tale. The film will star singer-songwriter Camilla Cabello as the titular princess and Billy Porter alongside her as the iconic fairy godmother.

Porter's filmography includes American Horror Story and The Get Down but he's probably best known for the Pose television series. The past few days have been riddled with reports that the performer is in talks to star and; Porter recently confirmed that he will play the fairy godmother — according to a report by Deadline.

Kay Cannon, best known for directing Blockers, will helm Sony's Cinderella movie. It's said to be a modern and musical retelling of the iconic fairy tale. The host of The Late Late Show with James Corden will executive produce — it's supposedly Corden who initially came up with the idea of the remake. Alongside Corden, Leo Pearlman will produce under the Fulwell 73 banner.

Unrelated to Sony's upcoming remake and (seemingly) Disney's 2015 remake of Cinderella there were recently reports that a live-action movie with the fairy godmother at the centre was in the works for Disney+ — find out more on that here.
