BARBIE: Warner Bros. Releases A First Look At THE SUICIDE SQUAD Star Margot Robbie As The Iconic "Doll"

We've seen lots of animated Barbie movies over the year (the iconic doll even played a role in the Toy Story franchise), but a live-action project from Warner Bros. and Mattel has been in the works for some time now. After initially eyeing Amy Schumer to play the title character, the movie has finally revealed a first look at Margot Robbie's (The Suicide Squad) take on one of the world's most iconic toys.

Shared by Warner Bros. along with the news that Barbie will arrive in theaters on July 21, 2023, this image doesn't reveal much, but Robbie - best known for playing Harley Quinn - clearly looks the part.

Greta Gerwig (Little Women) is directing the movie and co-wrote the project with her husband Noah Baumbach. Ryan Gosling (Blade Runner 2049) has been cast as Ken, while Will Ferrell (Anchorman) recently signed up to play the CEO of a toy company (widely believed to be a spin on Mattel).

Rounding out the impressive ensemble are names like Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon, Alexandra Shipp, Emma Mackey, Ariana Greenblat, and America Ferrera.

Needless to say, we're definitely intrigued to see where this one goes. No plot details have been revealed, but we're expecting Gerwig to put a unique spin on Barbie and the world she inhabits. The expectation is that it will be a comedy, but with that cast, it could just as easily head down the action route too! Now this first look has been shared, we're hopeful that a trailer won't be too far behind.
