While most of the attention has been focused on which NBA stars would be joining LeBron James in Space Jam 2, not everyone in the cast will be a professional basketball player. Deadline exclusively reports that Don Cheadle has joined the cast of the upcoming reboot, though his role is being kept under wraps.
Cheadle is coming off the second biggest-grossing film of all time in Avengers: Endgame. He plays James Rhodes, aka War Machine, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He also recently starred in Black Monday, the Wall Street comedy series on Showtime.
Not much is known about Space Jam 2 except that it is being seen as a reboot to the original 1996 film and not an actual sequel. LeBron James will serve as the main superstar, filling the shoes left by Michael Jordan. He will be joined by fellow NBA stars Anthony Davis, Damian Lillard, and Klay Thompson, along with WNBA stars Diana Taurasi and Nneka Ogwumike. Of course, the Looney Tunes will also be a major focus as well.
Space Jam 2, which is currently in production, is slated to hit theaters on July 16, 2021. It's being directed by Terence Nance (Random Acts of Flyness) with Black Panther writer and director Ryan Coogler producing.
