Walt Disney Studios has released a brand new poster for their upcoming sequel to 2014's
Maleficent. That film was a loose retelling of the classic
Sleeping Beauty tale. However, the sequel has free reign to tell an all-new story.
Angelina Jolie will be reprising her role in
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, as will Elle Fanning. Each respectively playing the titular villainess and, her adoptive daughter, Princess Aurora. The sequel will also be introducing some new faces, the most prevalent of those being Michelle Pfiefer — as Queen Ingrith.
As well as those, the cast will also include the following actors: Ed Skrein, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Juno Temple, Sam Riley, and Imelda Staunton. The latter three of those will be reprising roles from the first instalment, unlike the first two. Some of those feature on the aforementioned, new poster that Disney has released.
It's predominantly in black and white, that is, apart from Jolie's titular fairy godmother. All in all, it's a pretty striking aesthetic. You can check out Disney's tweet (
@DisneyStudios) and the poster below:
The years have been kind to Maleficent and Aurora. Their relationship, born of heartbreak, revenge and ultimately love, has flourished. Yet the hatred between man and the fairies still exists. Aurora’s impending marriage to Prince Phillip is cause for celebration in the kingdom of Ulstead and the neighboring Moors, as the wedding serves to unite the two worlds. When an unexpected encounter introduces a powerful new alliance, Maleficent and Aurora are pulled apart to opposing sides in a Great War, testing their loyalties and causing them to question whether they can truly be family.
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil is set to arrive in theatres on October 18th, 2019.
