It looks like the Mystery Machine is headed to a familiar destination - Zombie Island. In the new animated film soon to be released, it seems the team attempts vacation with disastrous results.
The film is a sequel to the classic
Scooby-Doo! on Zombie Island and will continue the story familiar to fans from the prequel. On why they chose to revisit this territory for a sequel, here are comments from Mary Ellen Thomas, Vice President of Family and Animation Marketing.
“Zombies are a very popular theme in entertainment now and we wanted to create a fun, family-friendly version of this genre for Scooby-Doo! fans. So we brought back a Scooby-Doo! classic and continued the original story but created a captivating new plotline.
Scooby-Doo! Return to Zombie Island is an entertaining, original film that will appeal to a wide audience. It’s classic Scooby-Doo! with a contemporary look and feel, a fun storyline and engaging characters. This release is a must for your home entertainment library.” - Mary Ellen Thomas, Vice President Family & Animation Marketing.
Thomas isn't wrong, as
The Walking Dead alone has proven it is popular enough to spurn off multiple spin-offs and set up films. Exploring that in more of a family friendly way may or may not help appeal to a large audience, and will have to remain to be seen.
