Zootopia 2 was predicted to be a mega box office hit for Walt Disney Animation and the film hit its target and more thanks to massive international box office totals.
As previously reported, the film was estimated to reach a $400-$500 global box office total in its opening weekend and thanks to the latest numbers, it's now been confirmed that the 64th feature-length animated film from Walt Disney Animation Studios has eclipsed even the most optimistic estimates.
According to the latest figures, Zootopia 2 has grossed $156 million from North American theaters and $400.4 million from international territories.
The international region total is buoyed by $271.6 million from China alone.
In our analysis, Toonado predicted a big China debut thanks to the popularity of the first film there, the popularity of the Zootopia-themed land at the Shanghai Disney Resort, and the clever way that Disney leveraged the film's animal themes to align with the Chinese zodiac.
For instance, Zootopia 2 will introduce Gary the Snake (voiced by Ke Huy Quan), and 2025 just-so happens to be the Year of the Snake in the Chinese zodiac calendar.
Zootopia 2 now finds itself ranked 4th on the list of biggest global opening weekends, trailing only Avengers: Endgame, Avengers: Infinity War, and Spider-Man: No Way Home.
