As new images from The Little Mermaid continue to be released online (ahead of what we assume will be a final trailer), this latest look at Disney's live-action reimagining spotlights Ariel alongside two of her sea-faring animal pals, Scuttle the seagull and Founder... the flounder!
Of course, in the original animated classic these guys were adorable 'toon sidekicks, but fans have been divided on these more "realistic" character designs.
Check out the new still below, along with another shot of Ariel and Prince Eric (via Total Film).
Halle Bailey and Melissa McCarthy star alongside Javier Bardem as King Triton, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, and Awkwafina as Scuttle.
The Little Mermaid will feature music from the animated classic as well as four new songs. Lin-Manuel Miranda, who previously worked with Marshall on Mary Poppins Returns, will also compose original music for Mermaid along with Alan Menken.
The Little Mermaid is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters, and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.
The movie is set to swim into theaters on May 26, 2023.
