We recently got an awesome official trailer and poster for the upcoming return of
Star Wars: The Clone Wars —
check those out here — but that apparently isn't the only
Star Wars animated series that will be coming to Disney+ this year. Earlier this month, Kessel Run Transmissions reported that there's a follow-up to
Star Wars Rebels in the works at Disney and Lucasfilm.
Star Wars Rebels served as a follow-up to
Star Wars: The Clone Wars, premiering in 2014 and coming to an end in March 2018. It's set between the events of
Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith and
Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope. The animated series followed survivors of the Jedi Purge (A.K.A. Order 66) and featured the origins of a fledgling Rebellion.
The final episode of
Star Wars Rebels concluded with a scene that takes place after the events of
Star Wars: Episode VI — Return of the Jedi. Ezra is missing and Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren seemed as if they were about to traverse the galaxy in order to track him down. That may well be the premise of the rumoured
Star Wars Rebels follow-up series.
It's reported that Ahsoka and Sabine are the show's main characters and Dave Filoni (
Star Wars: The Clone Wars,
Star Wars Rebels,
The Mandalorian) will once again be involved. Noah Outlaw of
Kessel Run Transmissions recently tweeted that the sequel series will be coming to Disney+ as soon as Winter 2020.
