Although Disney just recently reached a deal with Sony Pictures that will eventually see new Spider-Man movies and other films make their way to the Disney+ streaming service, it appears that at least one series for the web-slinger has mysteriously disappeared. Fans recently noticed that Spider-Man: The Animated Series has been removed from Disney+.
The series' removal from the streaming service caught fans by surprise as there was no prior warning or announcement made. The good news is that it seems the series will return at some point.
Twitter user PeteyBats posted an exchange with customer support over at Disney+. The representative confirmed that Disney is aware of "this issue and are actively working towards a resolution." This isn't the first time a series or movie has been removed from Disney+. Usually, when this happens it's due to some sort of contract issue with another streaming service, so it's possible this could be the issue with Spider-Man: The Animated Series.
The good news is it sounds like this is only temporary. The representative added that "Spider-Man (1994) will be returning to the service shortly, but we do not have any specific dates to share at this time."
Spider-Man: The Animated Series focuses on Peter Parker during his college years, having already gained his superpowers and working part-time at the Daily Bugle. The series received critical and commercial success and was praised for its faithfulness to the source material and retelling many of the iconic comic book storylines.
Spider-Man: The Animated Series ran on Fox Kids Network from 1994 to 1998. It consists of five seasons spanning a total of 65 episodes. Reruns of the series later ran on Toon Disney and Disney XD.
