Disney+ Day takes place on September 8, and among the new releases will be the live-action Pinocchio movie. The promo below only includes a few seconds of footage, but fans are thrilled at the sight of a Pinocchio who looks like he's been pulled straight out of the classic cartoon and into a live-action setting.

The teaser poster suggested that would be the case, of course, but seeing the wooden puppet who dreams of becoming a real boy in motion really is something special. We're not sure why the movie is heading straight to streaming, but hope it's simply a way to drive up subscribers rather than being any sort of indication that this adaptation isn't a particularly good one.

Tom Hanks plays Geppetto, the woodcarver who builds and treats Pinocchio (Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) as if he were his own son. Joseph-Gordon Levitt is Jiminy Cricket, who serves as Pinocchio’s guide as well as his "conscience." Cynthia Erivo is the Blue Fairy, Keegan-Michael Key is "Honest" John, Lorraine Bracco plays Sofia the Seagull, a new character, and Luke Evans is The Coachman.

Also in the cast are Kyanne Lamaya as Fabiana (and her marionette Sabina), Giuseppe Battiston as Señor Stromboli, and Lewin Lloyd as Lampwick.

Academy Award winner Robert Zemeckis directed this retelling of the beloved tale of a wooden puppet who embarks on a thrilling adventure to become a real boy.

Disney's live-action adaptations have been hit-and-miss, but everything we've seen from this one suggests it could be something really special. For fans of the original Pinocchio, this live-action design is perfect, though, and we're keeping everything crossed that one more trailer will drop ahead of the movie's September 8 release. Regardless, we have a good feeling about this one.
