Disney dropped the first teaser trailer for Pixar's next feature film, Luca, and it looks like we're in for another fun adventure.
The trailer begins with the young boy promising that this will be the "best summer ever" as he and his friend adventure through a beautiful seaside town on the Italian Riviera. But midway through the trailer, when the two launch themselves off a cliff and into the ocean, we learn their deep secret: they are sea monsters from an underwater world.
Luca and his friend's closely-held secret must remain that way as it's revealed that this seaside town has a history of hunting sea creatures.
Set in a beautiful seaside town on the Italian Riviera, Disney and Pixar’s original feature film “Luca” is a coming-of-age story about one young boy experiencing an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta and endless scooter rides. Luca shares these adventures with his newfound best friend, but all the fun is threatened by a deeply-held secret: they are sea monsters from another world just below the water’s surface.
Luca is directed by Academy Award nominee Enrico Casarosa (La Luna) and produced by Andrea Warren (Lava, Cars 3). The film does not yet have a release date, but is slated for this summer. It will presumably be released in theaters, but that will obviously depend on the status of the global pandemic, which has forced many studios to release their movies on streaming services.
Disney, for example, released Pixar's previous feature film Soul directly to Disney+ last Christmas in countries where theaters were closed. There was no premium access charge for watching it. However, Walt Disney Animation's upcoming movie Raya and the Last Dragon will release simultaneously in theaters and on Disney+ with a $30 premiere access charge for watching it on the streaming service.
