Disney has debuted the teaser trailer for Messi and the Giants, a new animated sports-fantasy series for kids. First announced in 2024, the show sends 12-year-old Leo into an alternate reality where saving the world takes more than football skills.
Leo finds himself trapped in Iko, a once-thriving world whose 10 realms are now ruled by tyrannical giants. Chosen to lead the fight against them, he must assemble a team and compete in “high-stakes, soccer-like battles using powerful ‘orbs,’ defeat legendary giants, and restore the fractured realms of ‘Iko’.”
There’s just one problem: Leo doesn’t have access to the special abilities that give other players an edge. For the undersized hero, taking on the giants means learning to trust his teammates, and himself.
“Unlike everyone else, Leo can’t use the world’s code powers to supercharge his game, so he relies on his real strengths — skill, teamwork and determination — turning the story into an underdog adventure about courage, perseverance and believing in yourself,” the synopsis teases.
Episodes of Messi and the Giants will run for 22 minutes, exploring friendship, perseverance, and overcoming adversity. Those themes draw from Messi’s own experiences as the smallest player on his team.
“I always dreamed of being involved in a project that would share the values of sports, the very same values that have been so important to my career, with younger generations. Nothing truly is impossible with teamwork, perseverance, discipline, and hard work,” said Lionel Messi. “I look forward to sharing this series with kids around the world, and I hope I will inspire them and motivate them to achieve their own dreams. Ever since I was a kid, I always loved animated series, and I look forward to watching this series with my own kids.”
Argentine actor Milo Burgess-Webb voices Leo, with Atlantis Animation handling the animation. Executive producers include Kurt Mueller, Bryan Korn, Lacey Stanton, and Guy Toubes for Sony Pictures Television; Afo Verde for Sony Music Latin Iberia; and Tom Mackay and Sergi Reitg for Sony Music Vision. Lionel Messi Cuccittini and Jorge Messi Pérez are also listed as executive producers.
The trailer also features an original theme song, “Vamos, Vamos, Vamos,” performed by Argentine artist Luck Ra.
“Football — or soccer as we call it in the United States — is the world’s most beloved sport, uniting and captivating millions of fans of all ages,” said Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television. “We are proud to work with Lionel Messi and Sony Pictures Television to bring ‘Messi and the Giants’ to our passionate, global kids’ audience. We know that its themes of family, friendship, and teamwork will resonate with not only football enthusiasts but everyone everywhere who loves a great story.”
Messi and the Giants will premiere globally on Disney+ in summer 2027. It will also air on Disney Channel in the United States.
