Billy Magnussen has signed on to star alongside Zach Galifianakis and newcomer Maia Kealoha in Disney’s live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch.
Details on Magnussen's role are being kept under wraps, but we know that Kealoha will play Lilo, and Galifianakis is believed to be playing Pleakley, the alien who pursues Stitch along with his creator Dr. Jumba Jookiba.
Though Crazy Rich Asians filmmaker Jon M. Chu was originally in negotiations to helm the project, Dean Fleischer Camp (Marcel the Shell With Shoes On) will now direct.
Rideback's Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich are producing. Mike Van Waes wrote an early draft of the script, but Chris Kekaniokalani Bright penned the most recent version.
Lilo & Stitch tells the story of a young Hawaiian girl named Lilo Pelekai who forms a bond with a blue alien called Experiment 626, who was engineered to be a force of destruction. It wasn't considered one of the Mouse House's bigger hits from a box office standpoint, but it remains a very popular entry in Disney's library, having spawned three direct-to-video sequels and a 2003 TV series.
