A lot of people sure are talking about "We Don't Talk About Bruno." The hit song, from Walt Disney Animation Studios' Encanto, is everyone's latest obsession, and as of last week, was No. 4 on Billboard's Hot 100 song chart.
The track has now outperformed "Let It Go," the Oscar-winning song from 2013's Frozen, which topped out at No. 5 on the chart. "Let It Go", performed by Broadway star Idina Menzel, went on to win the Academy Award for Best Original Song.
Written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, "We Don't Talk About Bruno" is now the highest-charting Disney song since Vanessa Williams' "Colors of the Wind" from the 1995 animated film Pocahontas, which reached No. 4. Elton John's "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" from The Lion King also reached No. 4 on the chart in 1994. "A Whole New World", performed by Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle in Aladdin, topped the charts at No. 1 for one week in March 1993.
But right now, everyone is talking about "We Don't Talk About Bruno," just one of the many great songs featured in Encanto. It's performed by Carolina Gaitán, Mauro Castillo, Adassa, Rhenzy Feliz, Diane Guerrero, Stephanie Beatriz and the Encanto cast.
Encanto debuted in theaters on November 24 before arriving on Disney+ a month later on December 24. Earlier this month, the Encanto album became the first soundtrack to reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200 charts since Frozen II back in December 2019.
Directed by Jared Bush (Zootopia) and Byron Howard (Zootopia, Tangled), Encanto tells the tale of an extraordinary family, the Madrigals, who reside in the mountains of Colombia, in a magical house, in a vibrant town, in a wondrous, charmed place called Encanto. Ever child in the Madrigal family has been blessed with a special and unique gift -- except for one: Mirabel (vocie of Stephanie Beatriz). With the magic surrounding Encanto in danger, it's up to Mirabel to save her family. Encanto is currently streaming for free on Disney+.
