This past weekend, the animation Twitter account @TheCartoonBase held a fan Q&A session with Christopher Jones, a storyboard artist on Young Justice who has also illustrated all of the tie-in comic book series for the beloved animated DC Comics adaptation.
A number of topics were discussed but as expected, the #1 question fans wanted to know is whether the show will ever return after four seasons.
Jones explained that after its initial 2-season order, Young Justice has always returned on a 1-season contract. And that certainly explains why Young Justice: Outsiders (Season 3) and Young Justice: Phantoms (Season 4) both received what felt like bookend finales.
Jones called on the YJ fanbase to remain vocal and that if they hold up their end, he believes it's only a matter of time before Max commissions a new season.
Season 1 of Young Justice premiered on Carton Network back in November 2010 for a 26-episode run that concluded on April 21, 2012.
A second season (titled Young Justice: Invasion) premiered on Cartoon Network in April 2012 and concluded in March 2013 after a 20-episode run.
After a 6-year hiatus and a vocal fan campaign for the show's return, Season 3 (Outsiders) was released on DC Universe for a 26-episode run that was split into 2 parts and was released from January 2019 - August 2019.
Like season 3, the fourth season (Phantoms) also consisted of 26 episodes split into two parts, released from October 2021 to June 2022. However, the show aired on HBO Max, after DC Universe was absorbed into Warner Bros.' new streaming platform.
