Ahead of San Diego Comic-Con, Netflix prematurely revealed the premiere date for
Voltron: Legendary Defender Season 7. Now confirmed by the show’s official Twitter page, the new season will debut on the streaming service on next month August 10.
In an amusing exchange on Twitter, the official Netflix account admitted that it gets excited sometimes, which explains the slip.
Voltron: Legendary Defender is one of the most popular animated series on Netflix. The show follows a group of space cadets as they discover pieces of an ancient mecha destined to save the universe from the Galra Empire. Each member of the squad pilots their own flying mechanic lion that can combine to form the giant Voltron mecha, requiring great teamwork among the group.
Details regarding the upcoming season remain under wraps, but executive producer Lauren Montgomery did provide some clues when speaking to
ComicBook.com last month.
"Obviously their sights are set on getting back home, to Earth, where Pidge's father has these plans to potentially, hopefully, build them a new ship. But they have to get their first," Montgomery teased.
"And so they no longer have the castle ship, they're gonna have to do some trekking to make it all the way home. So we can expect to see a little bit of Paladin travel time, and yeah."
Heading into San Diego Comic-Con, fans were obviously expecting a release date announcement. A panel for the show is set for Friday, July 20 at 10:15am in Room 6BCF where attendees will be treated to a screening of Season 7's first episode. Hopefully, those of us at home get some sort of trailer for
Voltron's new season.
