After 9 seasons and 172 episodes, the final Rugrats episode aired in August 2004 after launching in August 1991. Of course, that series was followed by the spinoff, All Grown Up!, which caught up with Tommy, Chucky and the rest of the gang, 10 years later. That series lasted 5 seasons (55 episodes) and concluded in August 2008.
Ten years later, it seems Viacom is looking to revive the Rugrats brand as a new animated series and live-action film has been announced. Nickelodeon will launch a new 26-episode series while Paramount will release the film. Paramount is also set to release similar film adaptations of Are You Afraid Of The Dark? and Dora the Explorer.
The three original creators and showrunners for the original cartoon, Arlene Klasky, Gábor Csupó and Paul Germain, are returning as executive producers.
The Rugrats film is set to hit theatres on November 13, 2020, while the new animated series will have its premiere date revealed in the coming months.
