The downside of Rick and Morty being one of the smartest, funniest, and most-acclaimed comedy series currently on-air is that it takes its creators a helluva long time to produce it.

The wait between the second and third season was a whopping eighteen months. Since the final episode of Season 3, it's been fifteen months and thus fans have begun to clamour for the animated series' return.

The official Twitter account for the show (@RickandMorty) recently posted a short video which, in true Rick and Morty-fashion, is totally psychedelic and off-the-wall. The clip sees the two main characters warped through the universe, morphed into planets, fish, kaiju, and more - all to the tune of "Rick, Morty, Rick, Morty" being whispered over the top.

Seeing as the tweet is totally out of the blue and without context in the slightest, many believe that this is the first teaser for the long-awaited and highly-anticipated fourth season. It is about time after all.

Check out the tweet for yourself below:

What do you think the clip means - if anything? Are you looking forward to the fourth season of Rick and Morty
