Robert Kirkman has been a comic book creator for years; in the past decade, he has been working on adaptations of those stories. Best known for being the creator of The Walking Dead, the extensively popular franchise has now gone on to spin-off into multiple series with connective tissue, proving Kirkman's worth as a creator of comic franchises.
The Walking Dead is such a massive IP that the flagship series is currently filming Season 11, Fear the Walking Dead is set for Season 7, and The Walking Dead: World Beyond is prepping the second season of the mini-series. Now it looks like Kirkman has plans to open that universe to another medium - animation.
Kirkman's other big title, Invincible, recently wrapped Season 1 on Amazon Prime. It was a rousing success - enough so that the creator is considering following up with a The Walking Dead animated series. That wouldn't be too hard to organize, considering the number of TWD alum that voice characters in Invincible, such as Steven Yeun (Glenn), Lennie James (Morgan), Khary Payton (Ezekiel), Lauren Cohan (Maggie), Sonequa Martin-Green (Sasha), Chad Coleman (Tyrese), Michael Cudlitz (Abraham), and Ross Marquand (Aaron).
With so many big names crossing over from one of Kirkman's projects to the next, it would be easy to see many of them and more returning for additional stories in The Walking Dead universe via animation and voice acting. Recently, when speaking with Inverse, Kirkman mentioned his interest in the project.
"I wouldn't rule it out. It would definitely be fun. I see the potential in doing that kind of thing, and I am really enjoying working in animation. I'm hoping to do some more animated stuff beyond Invincible, just because it seems to be a really fun working process and quite enjoyable, so who knows what the future holds."
