The Proud Family is an animated comedy series which aired on Disney Channel from September 15th, 2001 to August 19th, 2005. Created by Bruce W. Smith, The Proud Family was much in the style of a sitcom — despite being animated.
Back in August, the voice behind the character of Oscar Proud teased that the popular Disney Channel series would be revived on Disney+. However, now we've got confirmation from another star that
The Proud Family will indeed see a resurgence on Disney's streaming service.
During a recent interview on GMA3 (via
Deadline), the voice of Suga Mama, Jo Marie Payton confirmed that a revival is in the works. Asked about the character of Suga Mama by one of the show's hosts, Payton said the following:
“Yeah, Suga’s large and in charge. That’s all I’ve got to say — except for Suga Mama will be doing some new episodes come February.”
The Proud Family predominantly focused on the character of Penny Proud but also her family and friends. Penny was voiced by Kyla Pratt, Paula Jai Parker voiced Trudy, Alisa Reyes voiced LaCienega Boulevardez, Karen Malina White voiced Dijonay, Orlando Brown voiced Sticky Webb, Soleil Moon Frye voiced Zoey and Tara Strong voiced twins Bebe/Cece and Puff the Poodle.
