This week sees Season 2 of The Mighty Ones premiere, a fun and adventurous children's animated series that follows four anthropomorphic characters - a twig, a leaf, a berry, and a pebble with a plan. New episodes will land on Peacock, NBC's streaming service, this week.
The Mighty Ones is the brainchild of Creators and Executive Producers Sunil Hall (Pickle and Peanut) and Lynne Naylor (Samurai Jack). With these two creatives so well-versed in animated storytelling, it is no wonder the series is a hit and launching a Season 2.
The voice cast for the series includes Jessica McKenna (DC Superhero Girls) as Rocksy, Alex Cazares (Victor and Valentino) as Very Berry, Jimmy Tatro (Fast and Furious: Spy Racers) as Leaf, and Josh Brener (Silicon Valley) as Twig. Guest Starring this season includes voice talents with recognizable names Manila Luzon (Ru Paul's Drag Race) as Firefly, Fortune Feimster (The Mindy Project) as Vibez, and Stephen Root (Get Out) as Bernard.
Check out the promo trailer for The Mighty Ones Season 2, along with the show's synopsis below.
In every backyard exists a secret world filled with tiny creatures, and The Mighty Ones follows the hilarious misadventures of the smallest of them: a twig, a pebble, a leaf and a strawberry. Living in the unkempt backyard belonging to a trio of equally unkempt humans – who they mistake for gods – these self-proclaimed Mighty Ones are determined to live large and have fun in their wild wonderland, despite their diminutive stature.
In season 2, the misadventures of The Mighty Ones continue as they explore their backyard wonderland and learn more about the strange creatures they share it with. A flood forces the group to live as pirates searching for dry land, Rocksy dabbles in a home makeover, and Very Berry makes a new feathery “friend” who may or may not see her as food. These mighty little beings are relatively fearless, a little misguided and always have each others’ backs come snow, wind or any atmospheric phenomenon that threatens the yard they call home.
We had the incredible pleasure of speaking exclusively with Josh Brener, the voice of Twig in the series, who also happens to voice Donatello in Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. We were able to pick his mind about the show and what's to come, and you can choose whether you prefer the audio or video version of our chat below!
Josh Brener, an actor best known for his starring role in Silicon Valley, stopped by to chat with us about his adventures in animation ahead of Season 2 of The Mighty Ones, an informational cartoon in which he plays an anthropomorphic twig.
We also talk about some of Brener's other animated roles, particularly his voice work as Donatello in Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. We also touch on his parts in DuckTales and the animation he and his wife recently developed for Warner Bros.
Brener told us about his love for tardigrades and his hopes to one day portray one in animation, his particular approach to voicing characters like Twig, and his upcoming role in Mythic Quest.
Season 2 of The Mighty Ones hits Peacock on July 1st.
