It's been a little over a month since
The Dragon Prince returned to Netflix for its second season, and already the streaming service has confirmed a third season will be "coming soon."
The formal announcement of the hit animated show's return for a third season was made at WonderCon 2019 in Anaheim, California. While no release date or trailer was shared, the announcement was accompanied by an intriguing new poster featuring Zym and Soul Regan along with a synopsis for Season 3.
"Season 3 finds Rayla and Callum finally at the cusp of entering Xadia, while young Ezran returns home to take his place on the throne. Meanwhile, Lord Viren begins to realize the influence and power of his new ally – the mysterious Startouch elf, Aaravos. As several storylines unfold in big ways, this season will be massively epic."
Season 2 of
The Dragon Prince premiered on Netflix last month and, like the first season, the show received rave reviews. Season 1 and 2 both sit at a perfect 100% on
Rotten Tomatoes, with many praising the sophomore season for its bolder direction and smoother animation style.
There was only a five-month wait period between the premiere of The Dragon Prince Season 1 (September 2018) and Season 2 (February 2019). With Netflix claiming the new season is "coming soon," it's possible that Season 3 could arrive sometime this summer - perhaps as early as July.
