Once every year, teens take to the internet to vote on their favorite movies, music, video games, and television series from the past year for the Teen Choice Awards. While the categories range from typical (Choice Movie Actor) to absurd (Choice Hissy Fit), the one category that did surprise was Choice Animated TV Show.
This year, the Teen Choice Award for Best Animated TV Show was awarded to the Indie animation studio ZAG for their animated series Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir. The popular show’s win was shocking only because it collected more votes than many of the mainstream animated series including Family Guy, Rick and Morty, and The Simpsons.
Jeremy Zag, the CEO and Founder for the Indie studio had this to say about Miraculous’ win:
“We are so thrilled that Miraculous has been chosen by fan vote as Choice Animated TV Show. I want to give a special thank you to my magical teams and incredible partners in EUROPE, USA, LATAM and ASIA. We couldn’t have made it without their support. Most importantly, special big love to the best fan base in the world!!!”
Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir follows two Parisian teenagers, Marinette Dupain-Cheng (voiced by Cristina Vee in the English version) and Adrien Agreste (voiced by Bryce Papenbrook), who take on the superhero personas of Ladybug and Cat Noir, as they work together to save the city from super-villains. According to Animation Magazine, the animated series airs in over 120 countries worldwide and has been responsible for raising overall network ratings with broadcast partners such as Netflix and KidsClickTV in the USA, Disney EMEA & Latin America, France’s TF1, UK’s POP, Italy’s Super! and Brazil’s Gloob!
The third season of Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir is currently in progress and is estimated to premiere in early 2019!
