Construction on Universal Studios Japan's Super Nintendo World, a new theme park based on notable franchises from gaming giant Nintendo, has been going on since 2017, but not much has been officially unveiled. However, new construction photos, courtesy of Japanese Nintendo, have confirmed at least one iconic character from the
Mario franchise will be appearing in the park.
The
photos show off an impressive set that very closely resembles the scenery of a
Mario game. They also show Yoshi, Mario's adorable dino buddy, standing near a tower of Goombas. Yoshi is the first confirmed Mario character for Super Nintendo World, but you can expect that other iconic characters from the popular Nintendo franchise will also be featured within the park. With the likes of Mario, Luigi, Peach, Donkey Kong and Bowser, there's certainly no shortage of characters to choose from.

Right now, Super Nintendo World seems to be revolving heavily around Mario -- one of the rides is themed after the
Mario Kart series -- but it'll be interesting to see if any other Nintendo franchises are brought to life in the park. Which Nintendo games would you like to see featured in Super Nintendo World?
Super Nintendo World is expected to be ready in time for Tokyo's 2020 Summer Olympics. In addition to Japan, there are plans to bring Super Nintendo World to Universal's Hollywood, Orlando, and Singapore parks, but no timeframe has been announced.
