Steven Universe was brought to a close with its fifth season back in January. For all intents and purposes, that's the end of the popular animated series. However,
Steven Universe: The Movie released last month as a follow-up.
Today, a new continuation of
Steven Universe has been announced. The former supervising director of
Steven Universe, Ian Jones-Quartey, confirmed
via Twitter that
Steven Universe Future is not the sixth season of
Steven Universe proper but rather a whole new animated series in its own right.
This announcement came courtesy of a brand new video that was released by
Cartoon Network. It's a the intro sequence for
Steven Universe Future and features a somewhat new song — only somewhat as it's essentially one from
Steven Universe: The Movie only it's been shortened down — as well as a glimpse at new characters and villains.
Steven Universe Future takes place after the events of both
Steven Universe and
Steven Universe: The Movie. Alongside the announcement and intro sequence, we also got a brief synopsis — that goes as follows:
"After saving the universe, Steven is still at it, tying up every loose end. But as he runs out of other people’s problems to solve, he’ll finally have to face his own."
A premiere date hasn't yet been announced but you can check out the aforementioned intro sequence below:
