SpongeBob SquarePants began twenty years ago and is still going strong. Thus far, twelve seasons of the popular animated show have aired on Nickelodeon. And it has now been reported that the network has renewed SpongeBob SquarePants for another season (via Deadline).

This renewal occurred following the recent airing of "SpongeBob's Big Birthday Blowout". This live-action/animated special raked in over two million viewers across Nickelodeon, TeenNick, and Nicktoons. With numbers like that, of course it was going to be renewed for a thirteenth season. However, we currently don't know when the next season will debut.

Season thirteen will see the show's entire cast reprise their roles; Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants), Bill Fagerbakke (Patrick Star), Rodger Bumpass (Squidward), Clancy Brown (Mr. Krabs), Carolyn Lawrence (Sandy Cheeks) and Mr. Lawrence (Plankton). Vince Waller and Marc Ceccarelli are attached as showrunners for the upcoming season and it's said to consist of thirteen episodes.
