A Space Ghost movie from Shrinking star Jason Segel and the team behind Yellowjackets? Sign us up!
Though the project isn't actually in-development (and may never be), Segel has revealed that he penned the script with Yellowjackets showrunners Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, and it sounds like he's very proud of it.
“The last thing I wrote was Space Ghost," Segel said while speaking to The Playlist. “I wrote a movie version of Space Ghost with my friends, Bart Nickerson and Ashley Lyle who made Yellowjackets. We made a movie version of Space Ghost, who I was a fan of and there are like several iterations of Space Ghost. He was like an earnest cartoon superhero like Batman and then became an ironic talk show host and then DC brought him back as like a grizzled superhero. And so, I wrote a movie about that as an arc of one character. That’s interesting to me…I love the script though. We wrote a hell of a script.”
Space Ghost started out as a Saturday morning superhero animated series produced by Hanna-Barbera, which first aired on CBS from September 10, 1966, to September 16, 1967, and continued reruns until September 7, 1968. The character went on to appear in Marvel, DC and Archie comics, and was reimagined in the '90s as the host of an adult animated parody talk show for Cartoon Network.
Again, we have no idea if this movie will ever actually be made, but Segel will hopefully get a bit of feedback now that he's put the word out.
