The only thing bigger than the lore of Batman and his partners has got to be the fanbase that has grown around him. Perhaps knowing more than the Bat himself when it comes to character intricacies and consistencies, the fans of the world of the bat family are some of the most knowledgeable and loyal.
With so many fans of the bat-franchise around the world, it makes perfect sense that some of the most creative followers of the stories would want to create their own lore set firmly in the bat universe. Enter Ian Lang, longtime fan and filmmaker who is best know for his work on Red Hood: The Fan Series and Ninja Kidz TV.
With inspiration ripped right from the film reels of Batman: Under the Red Hood and the pages of Jason Todd's most iconic adventures, Ian brings a unique take on the violent anti-hero. With the third season on its way, Red Hood is joined by two other partners; Ashton Myler as Damian Wayne/Robin and Nadav Jackson, who plays Jason's son from another universe and completely new character Colin Todd/Red Robin.
Recently, I was able to contribute to an interview with the three on LiteraryJoe's Inner Child Podcast, where we discussed fight scenes, dream villains, and the upcoming third season. Make sure to check out an excerpt from the interview below and if you'd like to hear the full interview, make sure to give it a listen below, and don't forget to share your thoughts in the comments below!
Nick: What was one of your favorite scenes to choreograph or a fight scene?
Ian Lang: Ashton has only done one fight seen so far. *to Ashton* Tell us about that fight scene and what you thought about that?
Ashton Myler: Well, you'll see a little bit of it in the trailer, and It is me versus his son *to Ian*.
Ian Lang: Yeah, so it's Damian versus Colin, and there was a little misunderstanding, and then they got into a fight. And what did you think? That was pretty fun.
Ashton Myler: Yeah, that was really fun to film meeting everybody, and really getting into character.
Ian Lang: So Nadav, what's been your favorite fight scene?
Nadav Jackson: So I really liked the one with Ashton, but then I also really liked the one on the top of the parking lot. That one was one of my favorites; and then, a little blooper, when I was walking backward in the scene, I stepped on my cape, and it ripped off the back of my costume. (laughs)
Ian Lang: Yeah. So Season 2, Episode 2, Colin is walking backward because I push him in the chest (as Red Hood), and he steps on his cape and RIPS it off! And of course, you're on location without a costume designer. So yeah. Thanks. Thanks to gaff tape. Who does not sponsor us, but probably should. (laughs)
LiteraryJoe: Nice. What about you? Did you have a favorite fight?
Ian Lang: So, my favorite fight scene has not come out yet, but my favorite fight scene so far; there's another one that we are going to be shooting in a couple of months here, which is Damian and Red Hood versus Deathstroke and Talon, which will probably be my favorite. It's going to be a SUPER crazy fight. But my favorite so far is our first episode coming out, it takes place during the Under the Red Hood time, and we have a sick Red Hood/Batman fight.
