Square Enix surprised fans of the
Super Smash Bros. series when they announced that Cloud Strife — from the immensely popular
Final Fantasy VII — would be joining Nintendo's popular crossover fighting series.
Cloud was the first character by Square Enix to join the series, and ever since he joined
Super Smash Bros. 3DS/Wii U, he's still the only character that the developer has lent. Fans hoped that
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate would've seen more Square Enix characters joining the series, but that hasn't been the case just yet.
Amongst the most popular names thrown around, we find
Kingdom Hearts' main protagonist Sora. The problem here is that this may not be a decision that Square Enix can make, as rumour has it that it is Disney who has the final say here.
A recent poll conducted by Japanese website
Inside for All Gamers has revealed that Sora is still the fan-favourite to join the game's roster, with a solid 290 votes. For reference, over 3000 respondents participated in the poll, and the second place — Devil May Cry's Dante — only got 91 votes.
To be quite fair, of all of Square Enix's characters,
Kingdom Hearts' Sora is the most likely character to join
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate if it ever happens. We'll just keep our fingers crossed for it to happen; until then, Sora is free to keep going on all kinds of crazy adventures with Goofy and Donald.
The list with the results of the poll is the following:
1. Sora (Kingdom Hearts) – 290 votes
2. Dante (Devil May Cry) – 91 votes
3. Hunter (Monster Hunter) – 80 votes
4. Rex (Xenoblade Chronicles 2) – 74 votes
5. 2B (Nier: Automata) – 70 votes
6. Crash Bandicoot (Crash) – 65 votes
7. Waddle Dee / Bandana Waddle Dee (Kirby) – 64 votes
8. Sephiroth (Final Fantasy VII) – 59 votes
9. Aruru (Puyo Puyo series) – 56 votes
10. Steve (Minecraft) – 55 votes
11. Saber (Fate series) – 53 votes
12. Kirito (Sword Art Online) – 50 votes
13. Hakurei Reimu (Touhou Project) – 42 votes
14. Goku (Dragon Ball) – 32 votes
15. Geno (Super Mario RPG) – 26 votes
