In April, when the streaming service, Quibi, released on smartphones, it was a fun new way to take in content on a platform that made sure it never took too much time to get through an episode. Quibi hit its stride with the backing of many studios in the entertainment industry including, Disney, FOX, NBCUniversal, and Sony Pictures.
Sadly, it was revealed from CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman that the streaming app is being forced to shut down. Due to the rise of the COVID-19 pandemic coupled with the streaming competitors doubling down on more content, Quibi was sadly unable to keep up with the growing demand.
This means that some of the multiple animation projects that were set to come to the service have been forced to either stay in limbo or find other outlets to participate in. This includes shows like Doomlands, Filthy Animals, Futha Mucka, Gloop World, Micro Mayhem, and Trill League. It is expected that most of these projects, with some having big names like Justin Roiland attached, could move to other channels or services so that they can still air.
Quibi has become one of the biggest misses in entertainment, yet, but who knows what could rise to take its place? We would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
Quibi will be shutting down over the course of many months.
