Back in February, we caught wind that The CW was developing a live-action series based on The Powerpuff Girls but with a twist that reenvisions the crime-fighting trio "as disillusioned twentysomethings who resent having lost their childhood to crime fighting." The series will star Chloe Bennet as Blossom, Dove Cameron as Bubbles, and Yana Perrault as Buttercup, and now we've got our first official look at the trio.
As you can see, the Powerpuff Girls are all grown up and no longer donning their crime-fighting costumes. According to The CW, fans will still get to see the characters in their "official" Powerpuff uniforms, but it will only come in the form of flashbacks that take us back to their teenage years.
The official image comes on the heels of additional casting announcements. Robyn Lively is set to play Sara Bellum, while Tom Kenny will reprise his role as the Narrator. Rounding out some of the cast are Donald Faison as Professor Utonium and Nicholas Podanny as Mojo Jojo Jr.
Powerpuff is written by Diablo Cody and Heather Regnier with Maggie Kiley directing the series, which is based on the original Cartoon Network animated series created by Craig McCracken. In McCracken's series, the trio of superhero crimefighters were created by Professor Utonium when he combined "sugar, spice, and everything nice with the mysterious Chemical X." Will the three agree to reunite once again now that the world needs them more than ever?
