Ever since
Pokémon Go was released back in 2016, trainers have wanted to be able to have a say in what stops and gyms are - and more importantly
aren't - in the game.
Niantic recently got the hopes of players up with the announcement of Niantic Wayfarer into the game - which would allow level 40 players to suggest new stops and gyms as well as recommend which ones are currently in the game but shouldn't be - whether that be because of dangerous locations, private property, or something else entirely.
On paper everything sounded great and trainers welcomed the update but no one expected Niantic to do what they did next - which was pull the newly added feature almost immediately. Niantic Support issued an apology statement as you can see in the tweet below, but it didn't contain much information.
Niantic should have expected overwhelming response with the popularity of the game and the necessity of the feature.. When it does become available again, we hope that it will be after Niantic is sure they are ready to handle the players at hand - at least those that are level 40 as that is the requirement to make contributions.
We'll make sure to update you when it is available again, but in the meantime feel free to check out the trailer for Niantic's Wayfarer feature to verse yourself in it ahead of time.
Niantic Wayfarer is a platform where the Niantic community, Wayfinders, can nominate, review, and edit Niantic Wayspots across the globe. In doing so, while they explore they can help shape the future of their Niantic experiences.
Wayspots are unique places that exist in the real world that range from historic landmarks all the way to hyper-local street art. If a nomination gets enough positive reviews, it will become a new Wayspot and may populate Niantic games.
Pokémon Go is currently available on iOS and Android. We will update you when Wayfarer submissions become available again.
