Many episodes from the classic era of
Doctor Who have been deemed missing — and most likely destroyed as the BBC used to scrap old tapes. To counter this, they have been putting together animated recreations of these classic episodes.
"Fury of the Deep" was originally broadcasted in six parts around March and April of 1968. The serial sees the titular character and his companions battle some parasitic seaweed that aims to conquer humanity. This specific episode feautres the late Patrick Troughton who was the second actor to take up the mantle of the Doctor for the science-fiction series.
This episode is quite significant as it marks the very first time that the Doctor made use of his sonic scredriver — a gadget that has since become as iconic as the time lord himself and his time-travelling police box. As well, this storyline is the last to feature Deborah Watling as a companion of the Doctor.
While we don't know exactly when the animated recreation will be released, we do know that it will come in the form of a DVD, Blu-ray, and Steelbook. The BBC (via Doctor Who) has released a brief teaser trailer which shows off some of the scenery of the upcoming animated serial — check it out!
