One of the neat things about Netflix's Carmen Sandiego animated series is how it sheds light on the background of the titular character. In a newly released clip from the series, which premiered on Netflix this week, we are shown how the name Carmen Sandiego originated.

The clip begins with our title character having just escaped from V.I.L.E. Isle where she attends V.I.L.E. Academy, a school for thieves. Talking to the white hat hacker known as "Player," she is asked what her actual name is.

The clip also reassures us that the show retains its educational elements as well, as Carmen briefly details what the Canary Islands are. Carmen Sandiego is voiced by the talented Gina Rodriguez, while Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard portrays Player.

Everybody asks "WHERE is Carmen Sandiego?", but nobody asks "WHO is Carmen Sandiego?" The iconic woman in red returns for new international capers and a peek into her past. Featuring Gina Rodriguez as Carmen and Finn Wolfhard as Player, Carmen Sandiego now streaming only on Netflix!

Season one of Carmen Sandiego is now streaming on Netflix.
