Neopets is an online website in which you can take care of a virtual pet. It kicked off back in 1999 and was pretty popular over a decade ago. Hence why it comes as a bit of a surprise that an animated television series based on the property has just been announced.
JumpStart Games, the developer of the original
Neopets, has teamed up with Beach House Pictures and Blue Ant Studios to bring to life new characters and stories based on the children's brand in the form of a television series. It's said that they will be looking for co-production and platform partners in the near future.
The decision to make an animated series out of
Neopets is out of the desire to reboot the property and introduce it to a new era of kids. Beach House Pictures creative director Donovan Chan explains as much (via
Animation Magazine) — as you can see below.
"Bringing a new Neopets series to the market has been a passion of mine for many years and seeing it come to life is a dream come true," Chan said.
"We're looking forward to collaborating with the Blue Ant Studios team in Canada and JumpStart Games to create stories and characters for devoted, long-time fans, while introducing Neopets to a new generation of kids."
Along with this announcement came an official piece of artwork which shows off the colourful, cartoony, and cute characters of the newly rebooted property. Check out the official
