PowerPuff Girls isn’t the only cartoon celebrating its birthday today, folks. Google ole Mickey Mouse made his first debut in the cartoon, “Steamboat Willie,” and as the saying goes, the rest is history.
From what we have gathered, Steamboat Willie is the first fully synchronized sound cartoon ever produced, and that’s a big deal because it sets the stage for the future. You see, the cartoon, with Mickey Mouse as the lead, debuted on November 18, 1928.
We’re not the best at mathematics, so after hours of counting our figures, we finally conclude that this cartoon is 90-years-old. You know, from the videos we’ve seen, it doesn’t look bad for a 90-year-old animation.
Of course, it doesn’t hold a candle to the standards of today, but it can hold its own, no doubt.
What’s interesting about this cartoon, is the fact that Walt Disney is the man behind Mickey’s voice. This is the first time he gave voice to the character, and it worked out quite well.
For anyone visiting Disneyland today, they should come across birthday celebrations among other things to commemorate the character and the cartoon.
Additionally, we found out that Disney decided to open a 16,000-square-foot art exhibition in Manhattan. This massive exhibition is called “Mickey: The True Original Exhibition,” and for those excited, it will feature original art, large photos of Mickey Mouse among other things.
We must say that this is a milestone achievement for Disney. The company has surely done a great job with the character where marketing is concerned, but not so much in terms of quality cartoons.
