Marvel has released a sneak peek at the upcoming Black Vortex story arc for Disney XD's animated series
Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breaout! Kicking off tomorrow, the upcoming multi-party story will see the Guardians excape the Collector's collapsing ship by jumping into a mirror that serves as a prison dimension capable of taking on any form. This will send the Guardians across time and dimensions and trapping them in strange, new worlds.
In the new sneak peek, we see Gamora awake in a children's fairytale, inspired by Disney's classic animated princess movies. Featuring talking woodland creatures, flowers, catchy songs, and vibrant colors, this is Gamora's worst nightmare. Check out the new clip below.
Sunday, May 5 (9:30 pm ET/PT)
"Black Vortex, Part One" – When the Guardians become separated in the Black Vortex, Gamora wakes up in a children's fairytale, while Drax is trapped in a comic book.
"Black Vortex, Part Two" – While caught in a CG sinister packing factory, Rocket must search for his best friend Groot and escape.
Sunday, May 12 (9:30 pm ET/PT)
"Black Vortex, Part Three" – Quill finds himself in a claymation world where the Milano is flying into the sun, threatening to melt him. Meanwhile, Groot and Drax must fight Ronan in a Golden Age world.
"Black Vortex, Part Four" - Gamora and Quill battle their way through an 8-bit Super Marvel World.
"The idea for the fairytale setup for Gamora, with the woodland creatures, it played to every stereotype that anyone who is a fan of animation has seen since the 1940s. We really went almost to the extreme with the temperature of the colors that we used. That was very reminiscent of Snow White and Bambi," explained creative director Eric Radomski.
The "Black Vortex" story arc for
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout! kicks off on Sunday, May 5, with two back-to-back episodes airing on Disney XD. In addition to seeing Gamora trapped in a children's fairytale,
Part One will also see Drax adventure through a motion comic.
