Lizzie McGuire was a live-action television series that aired on Disney Channel back in the early 2000s. There were two seasons and sixty-five episodes in total. For the few years it was on the air, Lizzie McGuire proved to be quite popular and won the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Award for Favourite TV show in both 2002 and 2003.
Hilary Duff starred as the titular teenager as well as the voice of the small, animated version of herself — who served as a way to overtly express Lizzie McGuire's inner thoughts. The cast also included Hallie Todd, Robert Carradine, and Jake Thomas as Lizzie's surroudning family.
All four of the aforementioned actors will reprise their roles in an upcoming revival series for the Disney+ streaming service. Terri Minsky is credited as creating Lizzie McGuire and she did hold the role of showrunner for the revival. However, that is no longer the case as Minsky has departed the series on account of creative differences.
A Disney spokesperson told
Variety the following in reference to Minsky's departure:
“After filming two episodes, we concluded that we need to move in a different creative direction and are putting a new lens on the show.” Production of the Lizzie McGuire revival series has been put on hold until Disney can get a new showrunner on board.
