Just as the live action
Defenders deal between Netflix and Marvel come to an end, Marvel announces their new initiative - an animation partnership of a similar style, except on a different streaming service - Hulu.
Much like the Netflix deal, there are five shows that will appear on Hulu, and they have been announced as
Howard the Duck, Hit-Monkey, M.O.D.O.K., Tigra and Dazzler Show, with
Offenders being the culmination event for them. Yes, that's the real name. The idea seems to be to have fun with these adult animation shows, and that has been shown already with what seems the be the right developers chosen for each of the shows, like Patton Oswalt, Chelsea Handler, and even Kevin Smith.
As long as people have waited for Kevin Smith to work on a Marvel project, it might be surprising and even somewhat disappointing to certain fans that the director has been relegated to an animated project, but Smith addresses that concern and more in an interview that he recently had with Marvel.com. You'll notice how excited Smith is by his fun choice of words during his interview.
The times we're living in deserve an orator who can identify all the quacks in the system - a straight shooter who won't leave us holding the bill. Thanks to Marvel and Hulu, I get to do fowl things to one of my all time favorite comic book characters in animation! Let's be honest: I'm not talented enough to handle any of the Avengers, but Howard is definitely in my wheelhouse!
Kevin Smith isn't the only one working on
Howard the Duck, however, as he will be joined by Dave Willis
(Squidbillies, Aqua Teen Hunger Force) and the always gracious director also made sure to make mention of his new teammate.
However, the real brains of our operation is a legit cartoon genius: the great Meatwad himself 'Aqua Teen Hunger Force's' Dave Willis! So prepare to get ducked hard!
Meanwhile, Dave had a few words to add of his own, making sure to let fans know that he fully understands the responsibility he's being entrusted with.
I'm looking forward to working with Kevin on bringing Howard to the flat screen. And I know if I screw this up, I'll never be able to show my face at Comic-Con again. Nerds will haunt me the rest of my days.
Well, what do you guys think? Does this make you feel good, knowing that the creative team is passionate about making a good product? It's exciting to see what concoction these two beloved creators will come up with together.
