Pokemon has evolved - for lack of a better word - over the past two decades while fans of multiple generations try to keep up. What began as a simple Anime has become a worldwide phenomenon that has found it's way into most people's hearts - and with the introduction of Niantic's mobile
Pokemon Go back in 2016 - their pockets, too.
Pokemon Go took people by surprise with how popular it was at first. When trainers would go to a park, they would be greeted by the young and the old at the same time - even families playing the game together. A rare sight that few other mobile games have been able to achieve. Of course, to capitalize on that popularity, that game is being connected to the series of normal titles.
It began with
Pokemon: Let's Go, Pikachu and
Pokemon: Let's Go, Eevee which only recently were released for the Nintendo Switch, but have sold like crazy. The game borrows the catch mechanics from
Pokemon Go and also scraps the Safari Zone for the Go Park which allows trainers to trade Pokemon to themselves rather then send it to the Professor (you still get the candy, we checked). While talking about how
Pokemon Go will effect future titles as well, Masuda also made clear to state that these games are not spin-offs and should be treated as core Pokemon titles. His full quote is as follows.
"These games aren't spin-offs. These are core Pokemon titles. As for whether we would make other games that could connect to Pokemon Go, that will depend on how the games are received. If we hear a lot of people saying that they enjoyed being able to bring Pokemon to these games from Pokemon Go, then we'll think about maybe having future titles also be able to connect to it." - Junichi Masuda, Director of Pokemon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokemon: Let's Go, Eevee!
