Season 2 of Prime Video's Invincible is set to arrive on the streaming service sometime in 2023. The new release window was confirmed by Vernon Sanders, Head of Television at Amazon Studios, during an interview with Collider.
The publication writes:
During our interview with Sanders, we asked if he could give us any updates on Season 2 of Invincible. At first, Sanders tried to play coy and told us, “2023 is going to be a great year for people.” However, when we press
Prime Video's Invincible is an animated adpatation of Robert Kirkman's comic book series of the same name. The series, which is geared towards adults, follows the adventures of 17-year-old Mark Grayson (voiced by Steven Yeun in the animated series) as he learns to live with his newly developed superhero powers. A Viltrumite and first-born son of Omni-Man, the most powerful person on the planet, Grayson must learn to balance his personal life and his superhero duties.
Steven Yeun is joined by a star-studded cast that includes J.K. Simmons as the voice of Omni-Man and Sandra Oh as the voice of his mother, Debbie Grayson. Rounding out the cast is Wendy Allyn as Atom Eve, Stan Kirsch as Robot, Jeff Shuter as William Clockwell, Hosea Chanchez and as Mauler Twins. Seth Rogen also has a surprise cameo role.
The Invincible animated series follows the comics fairly closely with a few minor differences. Season 1 is comprised of eight episodes that runs through around Issue 13 of the comic series; however, the show does appear to have included portions from the later comics into its early storylines.
Season 1 was incredibly well-received with a 98 score on Rotten Tomatoes and an impressive 92% audience score. The critical consensus reads:
With bold animation, bloody action, and an all-star cast led by the charming Steven Yeun, Invincible smartly adapts its source material without sacrificing its nuanced perspective on the price of superpowers.
With such positive reception following the first season, fans are undoubtely eager to return to the superhero world of Invincible. Unfortunately, we don't know when exactly in 2023 the second season will arrive. Let's hope it's earlier in the year and not later. For what it's worth, Season 1 premiered in March of 2021, so a Spring debut for Season 2 could be possible.
Back in 2021, it was already announced that Invincible had been renewed for Seasons 2 and 3 at Amazon, so we know we'll be getting more animated superhero goodness beyond the sophomore season.
