Solar Opposites was
first announced back in August 2018 and at this year's SDCC, many more details about the project from Rick and Morty executive producers Justin Roiland and Mike McMahan were revealed.
The series had a rather generic description of "alien family comedy" for quite a while until Roiland and McMahan revealed additional details this past Friday.
Roiland explained, "It’s a group of aliens and their home planet gets destroyed by an asteroid and a bunch of them flee. We follow one particular escape pod of aliens that end up landing on earth. It really is an immigrant story, but it’s from the perspective of aliens. They’re kind of unfamiliar with everything. They don’t understand human culture. They don’t know what’s real and what’s fake."
The pair went on to explain that the show will deal with one-half of the family that wants to completely assimilate into Earth culture and the other-half, which wants to retain the customs and values of their home world. The show will be very violent, with the aliens constantly killing humans by accident.
The show's full voice cast was also announced and includes Tiffany Haddish (as the ship’s onboard AI), Alfred Molina, Christina Hendricks, Andy Daly, Alan Tudyk, and (cryptically) Thomas Middleditch.
Solar Opposites will drop all 8-episodes when it debuts, though it's still presently without a release date.
