Disney Junior's
The Rocketeer takes flight this Friday, November 8, introducing a new generation of kids to the legendary comic book character. Well, sort of. This new animated series is actually inspired by Dave Steven's comic book character and instead follows a young girl, Kit Secord (Kitana Turnball), who becomes the surprise recipient of the signature jet pack.
Ahead of the series launch this Friday, Yahoo Entertainment has an exclusive featurette with the cast discussing what makes this new incarnation of
The Rocketeer so special.
Among those involved in the project is Billy Campbell, who played Cliff Secord in the Disney's 1991 live-action movie. He reprises his role as the 1930s-era pilot in a brief flashback sequence, but
also provides the present-day voice of Dave Secord, Kit's father.
“Having been the Rocketeer in the movie, I was thrilled to hear that Disney was kicking the ball around again,” Campbell says.
“I think Kit has a very positive message for kids, particularly for young girls. She's empowered. I’m very excited for a new generation of kids to be introduced to the Rocketeer, especially my own kids.”
“Kit is a strong-willed and forward-thinking, exciting young female character who believes she can be anything she wants," adds Kathy Najimi, who plays Kit's mother, Serena.

The Rocketeer premieres on November 8 at 11:00 a.m. on Disney Channel, Disney Junior, and DisneyNOW.
