The G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero series was originally sparked by the popularity of 30-second animated television commercials created by Marvel Productions to promote the toys and comics. Its popularity led to a five-part mini-series which later became known as "The M.A.S.S. Device" when it aired during the series' syndication. A second five-part mini-series, "The Revenge of Cobra," followed in 1984. The series followed a group of elite military soldiers, Joe, and their conflict with the evil COBRA terrorist organization.
Following the success of those two mini-series, G.I. Joe was ordered to full series and kicked off with the five-part adventure,' The Pyramid of Darkness." The first season consisted of 55 episodes (65 in total including the two mini-series). It's unclear if Hasbro will release the rest of season one online. There was also a second 30-episode season in 1986, so there's no shortage of awesome animated content waiting in the wings.
