Amid earlier reports that Harley Quinn might not be renewed for a third season due to budget concerns, the season 3 order was made official earlier this week. However, the new season will be streaming on a new platform as Warner Media will soon close DC Universe and rebrand it as a digital comic book subscription service. All of DC Universe's scripted originals including Titans, Young Justice and Doom Patrol, will be moving to HBO Max.
The shuttering of DC Universe comes as little surprise as the launch of HBO Max made the platform redundant. Still, one has to question the decision-making at Warner Media after launching DC Universe in August 2018 and then HBO Max in May 2020.
DC Universe Infinite will launch January 2021. There's no word on when production on a third season would begin or a potential release date but showrunners Patrick Schumacker and Justin Halpern have stated that they've had a long time to develop ideas for where the show should head next.
Ahead of DC Universe's migration to HBO Max, Harley Quinn is already streaming its two seasons (totaling 26-episode) on HBO Max.
Harley Quinn follows Harley's adventures after she breaks up with the Joker and strikes out on her own in this new, adult animated comedy. With the help of Poison Ivy and a ragtag crew of DC castoffs, Harley tries to earn a seat at the biggest table in villainy: the Legion of the Doom.
