An animated series of the classic comedy horror film series, Gremlins, is reportedly in the works — according to Variety's sources. This series would focus on Mr. Wing during his youth, where he embarks on a series of adventures followed by Gizmo.
According to sources, this animated Gremlins series will be produced by Warner Bros. Television and Amblin Television; the very same producers of the original 1984 movie; so we shouldn't expect to see Billy Peltzer, portrayed in both Gremlins movies by Zach Galligan.
Variety also reports that Cold Comes the Night's Tze Chun would pen and executive produce the project, although at the time of writing this article neither Warner Bros. or Amblin have confirmed or denied that this alleged Gremlins animated series is being made.
Gremlins is one of those movies that have achieved cult classic status over the years, with the first movie becoming a hit overnight and the sequel slowly gaining a following — although some fans actually consider the second one to be the best of the two due to how self-aware it is.
If Variety's sources are to be believed, an animated Gremlins series is a good way to bringt he series back without rebooting the movies; especially with the animated show focusing on Mr. Wing and not on Billy Peltzer as the main protagonist. While the idea is definitely interesting, we'll just have to wait and see where things go from now on.
