Sesame Street needs no introduction, it's fair to say many kids at least know some of the colorful -- quite literally -- cast of muppet characters portrayed in some really interesting means to keep the show alive. Now, it's moving forward with an HBO Max original half-hour special slated to release this Thursday called Furry Friends Forever: Elmo Gets a Puppy.
As the name suggests, the program follows the beloved childhood icon as he finds himself with a new furry friend, two teasers are making the rounds.The first piece of pre-release content is a clip from back in July with Grover and Elmo trying to figure out what to name the new pup with Grover bouncing off dancing-related names as she seems to like to dance. In the end, the two muppets and puppy settle on the name given.
The second is a much recent promo, compiling several clips of the 2D-animated special into one condensed 30-second video. It also gives us some insight that Tango, the newly-acquired puppy simply doesn't have a home and being the loving and caring person he is, Elmo decides to take her in until they search for the local pet adoption fair to find her "forever home."
Elmo won't be doing this alone, however, as he'll certainly have the help of his pals including Cookie Monster, Big Bird, Abby Cadabby, and more. This special is going to depart from the average style everyone's come to know Sesame Street for, opting to go the route of more bright, vibrant 2D animation.

"In the special, Elmo and Grover discover a sweet, stray puppy – whom they quickly name Tango – and embark on an adventure throughout the neighborhood with Sesame Street friends Cookie Monster, Abby Cadabby, and Oscar the Grouch. Together, they search for the local pet adoption fair in the hopes of finding her a “forever home.”
Furry Friends Forever: Elmo Gets a Puppy is streaming on HBO Max on August 5.
